American Idol star Adam Lambert showed up at the 2010 GLAAD Awards on Saturday night wearing a suave suit and vintage sunglasses, a far cry from some of his more outrageous stage costumes.
Talking to Zap2it on the red carpet, Adam admitted that he has faced challenges as a gay artist since appearing on the Fox talent show. He said: “Obviously there are some challenges, because from what I’ve been told I’m the only openly gay artist to have been signed to a major label who was gay at the start of it. You know, it’s risky for record companies and movie studios. They feel like ‘well, we don’t know if our product is going to be as strong.’
“The reality is, it is a business…that we call show business. I’m glad that things are progressing, I think we’re making our steps and moving forward.”
Adam also revealed that he loved his American Idol return last week and when asked what piece of advice he would offer to the remaining contestants he said:
“I think they need to differentiate themselves from each other. ”
Later that evening Adam performed performed Music Again and Fever for the rapturous crowd. Not much video footage has yet been released, but check out a fans clip below.
